Winter of No End

Will there ever be an end to this winter?  Doesn't look like it - there is snow predicted for the first day of spring.  And to make matters worse, it is COLD.

But don't get me started on the pot holes.  Rhode Island is not known for a smooth ride but with this past winter, the pot holes are man-eaters.  And apparently, my car does not like to wear hub caps.  I have lost two, one that I found earlier to replace a lost one and the only one that matched.  I did find two but one didn't fit at all and the other almost fit but fell off in the garage.  I'm thinking that once hubcaps get a taste of freedom, you just have to let them roll away.

Despite all of this, I did manage to get in a few studio days and I finished a memory jug to be entered into Attleboro's national juried show at the end of May.

The Never Ending Winter

Will this winter ever end?  I would be interested to know just how may days in February it did not snow.  The temps have been at least 10 degrees below average and nothing is melting.  So instead of doing any more whining I thought I would post some pictures of green things taken at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Gardens.

Also, next weekend is the flower show at the Attleboro Arts Museum.  I plan on being there.  Two my pieces were accepted into the show, one photo and one mixed media piece.  I sure can use something something spring like.

Loose Ends

This is just a little catch up on finish works.  I started out with this

but I had this in mind

I layered thin coats of gesso until it felt done.  This is a 16 x 20.

I promised myself I would post more frequently.  Right now I am just trying to get thru this horrible winter.  More snow expected on Sunday.  Will it ever end?

New Work

For those of you who haven't been following the weather, this is to let you know that we have been hit again with snow. I was actually sent home because of it which was a mracle in itself. I saw on the internet that they have had to reroute the Itditarod race in Alaska because they did not have enough snow.  Well here it is in Rhode Island where we have half as much as Boston.  Me, I am in my cozy 7th floor condo watching people shovel.  Works for me.

But long before all this snow started to fall I did have some projects going and here is one of my finished pieces:

There is nothing like a creepy doll head in an art piece.

An Experiment

I bought some Yupo paper the other day because I have seen some interesting work and it looked like fun to use.  I dragged out my little used watercolors and gouache and threw in some inks for good measure.  I was attempting to do an abstract but it came out as a landscape.  Anyway, it only took a couple of hours and I am pleased with the results.  I would like to consult some experts in the future, however.

More Snow

This is the winter of no end.  A second day of snow and more tomorrow.  Also it has been extremely cold and I hate to see my heating bill this month.  The worst of it is, no time for the studio.

Here is what I added to a previous post.  I like to take some old pieces and add to them or put them into something else.

I thought this could use something more and I like this a lot better.

February

February has arrived and with it many new opportunities to exhibit.  I have been working on a new project for one of those opportunities.

This is a work in progress.  I have had this box a few years and I decided yo use it for a future submission.  I think it might be interesting not to clean the glass to give it a rustic look.

Anyone watch the Super Bowl?  I thought I was going to have a heart attack but they managed to pull it off.  A trip to Foxboro in a few days may be in order.

We are waiting for another storm to roll through but there is no place to put the snow.  This has been a rough winter.
