Great Day

It was a great day after all but still cold today - April weather is vastly over rated.  Today was the opening at the Providence Art Club (www.providenceartclub.org) for the national juried show where I had an entry.  I was very happy to find out that I received an honorable mention for this:
There Was an Old Woman
This is an interesting show with a variety of work from several states.  What an honor.

Work Day

Nothing like a day at work to stifle creativity.  I spent another non productive day at the studio yesterday and I tried to make some small things along the line of craft but nothing was   working out.

There are many shows coming up and I have to decide what to submit.  Coming up soon is the South Shore Art Center (www.ssac.org) juried and member show and the festival.  This show is under a tent so I have to be careful what to submit since the weather is always really hot or cold and rains at least one of the days.  I also have to bite the bullet and frame up some photos.

Working again tomorrow but at least there will be some help and I get to go to the opening at Mad Dog Studios in Pawtucket.  There is a very interesting furniture exhibit and I may buy something.

A Day at the Studio

I spent a not so successful day at the studio.  It had been a few days since I had been there so it was a little difficult getting back into the swing of things.  It was also a beautiful spring day here (finally) so my heart wasn't feeling like work.  But here is my project for the afternoon:

I was painting with acrylic on vellum bristol and I added ink.  I will probably add some collage elements since I haven't decided when I should leave leave it along.

Happy Easter

We spent a quiet Easter Sunday here is Providence.  We went to the Cable Car Cafe/Cinema to see the documentary Finding Vivian Maier.  It was very interesting and well done.  It inspired me to take my camera more places.  The Cable Car is also a very cool place.  Who doesn't like movies, food, coffee, and all the popcorn you can eat?  It is located at 204 South Main Street if you happen to be in the area.

Just a Little Bragging

I found out that I won First Place in a juried show at the Gallerie Ellipsis in Newport.  The theme was "Walk the Line" and here is what I entered:

Oh The Places You Will Go
I took a pair of child's shoes that I bought from Savers and glued pieces of a map onto them with Modge Podge.  I then coated them with encaustic wax and Viola!  Fun to do and a quick project.  I also figured that instead of the wax, you could coat with a couple of coats of gel medium for similar results.

I was also accepted into the Providence Art Club's national open juried show.  The opening is next Sunday.  I am looking forward to that.

Is There Anyone Out There?

Welcome to my blog.  My name is Dianne and I am a multi media artist living in Providence, Rhode Island.  I want to talk about art, travel and life in general.

Here are a couple of photos taken last year around the neighborhood to remind myself that there was actually a spring.
