Save the Bay

It is a great time to buy art.  There are so any venues having Little Picture Shows that it is hard to keep up with them all.  Here in Rhode Island there is no sales tax on original art so there is no excuse.  Here is what I have at Save the Bay in Providence.  This is a wonderful organization and they are the people who sponsor the lighthouse and seal tours.  Half the sales benefit Save the Bay.

These are 5 x 7 or 6 x 6 encaustics with image transfers.

I am Back

Yes it has been a while sinceI last posted.  I have not been doing all that much except working and getting ready for the Christmas shows.  Looks to be a busy season.

The only exciting thing I have done lately is to go on a seal tour in Newport.  I was hoping to see them on the rocks but apparently they don't do that until the early spring at low tide.  We saw a dozen or so just bobbing around.

Also we got to go to Rose Island and get a look at the lighthouse there.  And by the way, it was cold and windy.

I'm Here Again

I can't believe it has been three weeks since my last post but I have been busy in the studio.  I have put aside the deer head and got back to what seems to be the easiest thing to do:  make Organic Guardians.  Here is the latest group:

Deer and Me

I pestered my son in law's brother for a deer head.  Last year he got a deer and we buried the head along with the hide about a year ago.  We dug it up just three weeks of a year and it was pretty amazing.  The hide was completely gone and the head came out in three pieces.  We hosed out some white gunk which I later found out via the internet that is was grave wax, undecomposed brain matter.  Yuk.

Anyway, I liked the color of the bone even tho they are traditionally whitened.  I was going to leave it as is but it was really smelly.  A hydrogen peroxide bath did not help so I decided to do the boil method.  I boiled it too much and it fell apart.  I have spent several hours trying to put it back together.  So far, no luck.

Northern Lighthouses

On Saturday we saw the rest of the Rhode Island lighthouses in Narragansett Bay.  It couldn't have been a nicer day.  We did experience some engine trouble so we had to bypass the Bristol Ferry lighthouse but otherwise all was well.  Here are some of the things we saw and I may be mislabeling some of these.

Comminicut Point, Warwick (not sure of the correct spelling) 1883
Warwick Neck 1899
Rocky Point (maybe)
Prudence Island 1856
Hog Island 1899
Bullock's Point 1872, foundation all that's left
Savin Point, all gone too
Pompom Rocks  1871

Here Today

One of the participants of my portfolio class takes pictures of falling down buildings and old abandoned businesses.  I was particularly taken by one of the pictures because I have driven past it and it is only 10 minutes from my house.  I finally made the time to stop and tale a few pictures of my own.  I am told that it had served food and ice cream.  It has been abandoned for a long time.

Providence Photo Walk

I went oThen a night photo walk with Hunt's camera in Providence.  We went thru some historic neighborhoods and visited the Roger Williams park where you get some beautiful views of the statehouse.  Then we went down to one of the canals.  It was a beautiful night but I was not very happy with my results.

The Christian Science Church.  It was hard to get a good shot.
