Home Again

Home again after many adventures.  I have been working hard to prepare for various Christmas shows and the onslaught of frenzied shoppers at the mall.   I will be posting pictures of my travels to Ecuador, the Galapagos and Machu Picchu.  In the meantime I wanted to wish all a Happy Thanksgiving and here is a preview of some Blue Footed Boobies.

More from the Road

One of the highlights of our workshop was to take photos of the horses running to a field where they would spend the day.  We were told that you had just a few seconds to get the shot.  We were ready to hold our positions, aim and shoot.  Well that day, the horses were in no hurry to get where they were going.  There was no stampede, thunder of hooves or cloud of dust.  That day they decided to mosey.  Stroll.  Enjoy their surroundings.  One horse stopped to pose and another stopped to grab bite to eat.  Our workshop instructor said that had never happened before.  Anyway, here are a few of the non action shots from that day.

Ready for my close up

Early tomorrow morning my husband and I are off to the Galapagos Islands and Machu Picchu.  We have no idea of that to expect but we plan to be off the grid for a while.  I will attempt to post but photos will have to wait.

On the Road

Greetings from the road.  I am currently in Tucson, Arizona and I just finished up a photo workshop with Arizona Highways.  We are staying at the White Stallion Ranch and we had a wonderful time.  The food and staff are terrific.  I was mad at myself for forgetting to bring a bathing suit but we were so busy that I didn't need it.  I have never taken so many pictures all at one time.  Here is a small sampling:

The horses were just as friendly as the staff
Just some cows.  Should we tell them that steak was on the menu?
We saw hot air balloons every morning.

New Large Scale. Work

I had to break out the winter coat today.  Not exactly what I wanted to do.  Just yesterday it was Fall and today it felt like Winter.  I am really looking forward to my trip to Tucson and some eighty degree weather.

I finally finished up another large scale transfer print.  I want to do one more since I have the supplies for it.  I want to make a vertical of one of the tall ship photos from Portland.

Fall is in the Air

I went to Hunt's camera to purchase a polarizing lens as suggested by the equipment list for my upcoming Arizona Highways photo workshop.  I will be leaving for Tucson in about a week and a half and I want to have all my ducks in a row ahead of time.  Needless to say I spent about twice as much as I had intended but what can I say.  I needed (wanted) the stuff.

With the new lens in hand, I went to Lincoln Woods to try out my new toys.  I have to say I didn't really understand the concept of a polarizing lens until I watched a few videos.  Here are some of the results of what I did, courtesy of some photoshopping.  As you can see, fall is not quite here yet.

Patterns

I have been thinking about patterns which also happens to be the next theme for the Attleboro Arts Museum national juried show next year.  So many ideas, so little time.  Here is what I did with that in mind.  It is acrylyc on canvas. 30 x 40 and  it is currently hanging at the Wickford Art Association in their abstract show.  It was kind of fun to do and I was thinking about making it into a series such as greens, reds, etc.  I called it 50 Shades of blue.

And We Have a Winner!

A few months ago, I entered the Roger Williams Botanical Garden Photo Contest.  My photo was chosen as the best photo of a rose in the rose garden.

I have to admit that this was a lucky shot.  I only took three photos of this and without a tripod.  I remember sitting in the gravel and I don't know how I got the dark background.  Like I said, this was a lucky shot.

And by the way, this is my 100th post.
