Back in the Studio

It seems like it has been a long time since I have been to the studio.  My painting group, which consists of four of us, has had a difficult time getting us all in one room.  To remedy that, we have decided to make a commitment to meet at the Wickford Art Association on Tuesdays and paint. Now I should mention that here in Rhode Island there is the mentality that anything over a half hour driving time is really really far.  But so far, so good now that the weather is nice and the art association is across the parking lot from a very nice little beach.

I find that I can do one and one half 8 x 10 paintings in just 3 hours.  Here is one that I started and I was told to leave it alone because it was done.  I still want to do more work on the tree and maybe try it again, only bigger and more abstract.

More Workshop Photos

Well if you haven't guessed by now, I took a lot of pictures at the workshop.  I am posting a selected few of some specific themes like the beach, birds landscapes, etc.  I hope I am not boring any of you readers but here are some more.  This set I got pretty lucky and the eagle was very cooperative and sat for a long time.  We learned how to approach an animal, very slowly.  The results were worth waiting for.

Workshop Pictures Again

I still have lots of pictures to share.  These were sunrise photos and it is interesting to see how quickly the sun rises and how quickly the colors change.  We were challenged to take a picture of the sunrise without showing the sun.  It really makes you think.

More Workshop Pictures

It seems like I have running in place.  The past couple of weeks have slipped away and between work and organizing the house, I have had little time for art.  I have made a promise to myself to get to the studio and put some finishing touches on two small paintings I started today.  Since I didn't have my camera, I will share some more photos from my Road Scholar workshop.

This is Assateague Light House.  I had a hard time photographing it but this is one of my better efforts.

This one is going to be a painting one of these days.

Workshop Photos

I thought I would share some additional photos from my recent work shop in Virginia.  We had to get up very early to catch the sunrise and go to a freezing beach.  Some of the results were worth the pain and effort, all made a little better with coffee and a tailgate breakfast.

I'm Back!

I am back from spending a week in the Maryland/Virginia area.  I took a photo workshop through Road Scholar and I cannot say enough about this program.  We stayed at a field station on Wallops Island and we went in search of wild life and the Chincoteague ponies.  Our group leader was both entertaining and informative. I learned a lot about photography and the local birds  Here is a short preview of the beginning of our first day:

We were treated to a crab boil.  We ate with our hands off of newspapers.  I did not get the hang of getting the meat out of the crabs if there was any to begin with.  These were certainly not lobsters so I just feasted on the stuff that was easy to eat like the clams, kielbasa and shrimp.  More about this trip over the next few days.
